About
Born and raised in the small town of Kolbotn, just outside Norway’s capital Oslo, Ole G. Nielsen - now known as checkpoint —began his musical journey at the age of six, studying classical piano under the guidance of a classical piano-teacher.
As he grew older, his passion for music deepened into playing the guitar, discovering folk, pop and early experimentation with composition and soundwork. This curiosity gradually evolved into a distinct musical identity shaped by calm, reflective tones and a minimalist, emotional mix between modern classical and folk-pop.
In 2023, he began sharing his music online, posting guitar-based pieces on TikTok under the name snusmumriksen. Within a year, his atmospheric and steady sound resonated with a wide audience, earning him over 100,000 followers on TikTok and establishing a growing international listener base.
Now releasing music under the name checkpoint, Ole writes, performs, and produces all of his work independently. His sound blends elements of modern classical, ambient, and instrumental storytelling, characterized by subtle dynamics and introspective melodies, gaining over 70 000 monthly listeners on Spotify in just 6 months.
His latest EP, a lovestory (2026), features five instrumental tracks that together form a cohesive narrative. The story unfolds not only through the music itself, but also through handwritten notes embedded within the Spotify Canvas - inviting to engage more deeply and piece together the emotional arc behind the compositions.
